Replacing Heathrow airport with a poorly conceived Garden City plan that segregates uses, shows a lack of understanding as to how integrating places creates longer-term economic value. Heathrow already has huge investment in infrastructure that could be adapted to provide many more jobs and services than proposed. The site could successfully take three times the number of residents suggested by the TCPA. This would create a place with an intensity of use, able to support a variety of amenities locally, and for the wider neighbourhood. If this site isn’t integrated physically and socially with the neighbouring places then the existing local community may well remain excluded in 30 years time.
